After a grisly pandemic rocked the world and resources started to deplete, crystals began to appear on earth, quickly becoming the newest, most valuable resource. These crystals were collected, and their energy was used in order to meet people's basic needs. It didn't take long for big industries to realize the value of these crystals and utilize the energy harvested in them to gain power. These crystals had so much energy that new technology was developed, eventually leading to the Third World War. In a desperate search for resources and power, these crystals were collected through violence and bloodshed, even though the true power that dwelled inside them was still largely unknown.
After losing a 3rd of the population in the war and conflicts rising to an extreme level, the powers that be decided to end the war and save planet earth. In order to do so, the superpowers held deep diplomatic talks, resulting in the decision to move towards a totalitarian regime, effectively ending the war.
Eventually, power was held by one central authority and the crystals were harvested by the Crystal Ascension Summon Simulator LLC (C.A.S.S). Led by top entrepreneurs, scientists, and diplomats, this company began researching the true powers of these crystals and what they discovered altered their lives forever. They learned that these crystals housed aliens (who would eventually become known as Servants) from another dimension.
It's the year 2150, now the present day, and 5 years after the disastrous war. The crystal harvesting company C.A.S.S. invented a new technology which allows users of their system to play competitive strategy games with the crystals. This game was called Crystale. Users’ neural systems are linked to the C.A.S.S. system which allows them to be summoned in a Metaverse and play competitive games. The winners of these games are rewarded with the world currency allowing them to live in a very strict, dystopian, totalitarian world. However, unknown to the players, losing in these games has consequences far worse than simply descending socials ladders...
